Transport of antibiotic resistance plasmids in porous media and the influence of surfactants

Peipei Chen, Chaoqi Chen, Xiqing Li

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2018, Volume 12, Issue 2, doi: 10.1007/s11783-017-0986-7

Abstract: Transport of engineered antibiotic resistance plasmids in porous media has been reported to potentiallycause significant spreading of antibiotic resistance in the environment. In this work, transport of an indigenous resistance plasmid pK5 in porous media was investigated throughA similarity in transport behavior was also found between pK5 and an engineered plasmid pBR322 that hasover long distances and lead to the spreading of antibiotic resistance.

Engineering 2020, Volume 6, Issue 5,   Pages 577-584 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2020.03.008

Abstract:

Understanding the transport resistance of water molecules in polyamide (PA) reverse osmosis (RO) membranesIn this work, we use molecular simulation to calculate the total transport resistance by dividing itThe interior resistance is dependent on the thickness of the PA layer, while the interfacial resistanceThis implies that there is a risk of inaccuracy when using the typical method to estimate the transportresistance of RO membranes, as this method involves simply multiplying the total transport resistance
